Hiddink wants UEFA to judge Bramble

PSV Eindhoven boss Guus Hiddink has called for UEFA to use video evidence to try Newcastle defender Titus Bramble after a stormy clash in Holland.

The former Ipswich defender appeared to aim a blow at defensive midfielder Remco van der Schaaf as the first half of United’s UEFA Cup quarter-final, first leg at the Philips Stadium drew to an explosive conclusion.

Match referee Gilles Veissiere, who did not see the incident, took no action other than to speak to both players, but former South Korea coach Hiddink hit out at his decision and called for the governing body to step in.

“I have not seen it, but they have seen it on television and there is a clear elbow,” he said. “I think in this case, UEFA will make a judgement on the elbow.

“When they see an incident like that, they can see it clearly on television. I was not happy, because of this incident, with the referee.

“I felt he was chasing one or two players from my team, which I didn’t like very much. It’s not an international standard.”
