As Arsenal and Real Madrid were coming to terms with the shock of their Champions League exits, Sven-Goran Eriksson was emerging as one of the main beneficiaries.

Little has gone right for Eriksson over the past couple of weeks – apart from a pay rise, of course – with heavy criticism after his secret talks with Chelsea were exposed and his team were defeated in Sweden.
