Rovers hold on for win over Cork

Rovers made it a happy return to Richmond Park with a well-earned win.

Liam Buckley’s Hoops blitzed City with two goals in three minutes mid-way through the first half and then held on for victory.

Skipper Terry Palmer led by example to head home the opener on 18 minutes from Keith O’Halloran's free-kick on the right.

Palmer’s central defensive partner Jason McGuinness then scored on his home debut when bundling the ball home from a Keith Doyle corner.

Cork made a match of it in the second half after Neale Fenn pulled a goal back on 55 minutes.

Danny Murphy’s forward ball was helped on by Kevin Doyle and Fenn finished.
