Dundee foiled by frozen pitch
Dundee have been forced to postpone tomorrow’s Bank of Scotland Premier League game against Hearts at Dens Park due to a frozen pitch.
The Dark Blues usually have covers to protect the playing surface but an unexpected snow shower on Hogmanay has left the ground unplayable.
Dundee manager Jim Duffy said: “The pitch is frozen with a few inches of snow on it. It is definitely unplayable.”
The club has apologised to fans but insist the unforecasted snow had also surprised them.
Meanwhile, Dundee owners, Jimmy and Peter Marr have revealed they were prepared to put their money where their mouths were in the sale of Gavin Rae to Rangers.
The Tayside club rejected several offers for the Scotland international from Ibrox in a bid to reach the required £250,000 (€355,000).
But the Marr brothers would have paid the club’s administrators £175,000 (€248,000) if Rangers had decided against following up their interest.
A club spokesman said: “Peter and Jimmy said they were not prepared to let Gavin go cheaply and we will put our money where our mouth is.
“If Rangers had walked away because the club were asking for too much, they would have paid that price.”
