Sven prepared to speak up for Rio

Sven-Goran Eriksson will act as a character witness for Rio Ferdinand if called upon in the defender’s Football Association disciplinary hearing into his missed drugs test.

Ferdinand has yet to reply to the FA’s misconduct charge, although he is almost certain to request a personal hearing before Wednesday’s deadline to respond.
