Rio 'axed' from England squad

Rio Ferdinand has been axed from the England squad for Saturday's crunch Euro 2004 qualifier against Turkey, according to reports.

The Manchester United defender claims he forgot to give a sample for a drugs test after a club training session but took the test a few days later and passed.

A source said: "He was moving house that day and rushed off after training and forgot all about the test."

The squad is due to be announced today at 1pm.
