Doherty the hero for Skerries

Ed Doherty was Skerries' FAI Cup hero as his 56th minute goal put the LSL Division 1 side through to the third round.

The danger signs were there in the first half for Monaghan with Neil Gallagher coming very close with a long range effort on 27 minutes.

The crucial moment came 11 minutes into the second half when Brendan Moore flicked on Johnny Beggs' cross and Doherty shot home from six yards.

Chances for Alan King and Trevor Vaughan were missed by Monaghan late on as Skerries held out for a memorable win.
