Keegan lines up further recruit
Manchester City manager Kevin Keegan say he is “fairly confident” of drafting in a fourth new recruit – an unnamed midfield player.
Trevor Sinclair is due to have medical before the club leave on a pre-season tour of Denmark tomorrow and ready to go down the road taken by David Seaman and Michael Tarnet.
Keegan admitted after the 2-1 defeat by Mansfield in a friendly he wants another midfielder in addition to Sinclair.
“I am trying to get one more in and that’s it,” said the City boss.
“Then we will have the squad we want. There will be plenty of competition for places.
“We are after a midfield player and fairly confident of getting him.”
Sinclair, who is signing a four-year deal, could make his debut against Odense on Tuesday if everything goes according to plan.
Keegan said: “It’s done, apart from the medical on Monday morning.
“Trevor will train at 2pm and providing there are no problems will travel to Denmark with us.”
Keegan is delighted to have secured Sinclair’s services after a fee of £2.5million was agreed with West Ham.
“It gives us another couple of strings to our bow,” said Keegan.
“He can play left or right, at wing-back and up front. I am delighted if we can tidy up the deal.”
Meanwhile striker Paulo Wanchope could be out until September after suffering another injury setback.
He played all but two minutes of the second half against the Stags yesterday before going off with a hamstring problem.
Wanchope missed the whole of last season with a knee injury then dislocated his shoulder in training.
Keegan said: “Wanchope has done his hamstring. He felt something go and will now miss the tour.
“It could well be that he could miss both games against TNS (in the UEFA Cup qualifier) as well as Barcelona.”
Apart from Wanchope, striker Darren Huckerby will also miss the Danish tour as he recovers from a knee injury.
