Rosell confident he can lure Beckham to Barca

Barcelona vice-president Sandro Rosell has admitted he is yet to speak with David Beckham but is “confident” of persuading the England captain to come to the Nou Camp.

Joan Laporta won the presidency largely on the back of a bid to lure Beckham and has an agreement with Manchester United, subject to the player arranging personal terms.

But it will be no easy task to secure his signature if bitter rivals Real Madrid, as speculated, are closing in on a deal.

It is a widely held belief that talks are at an advanced stage between Beckham and the Primera Liga leaders.

Last week Barca presidential candidate Jaume Llaurado claimed during a debate that a deal had been made with Madrid in early May.

But the Laporta camp is not about to give up on the United man and they feel they will be able to convince him that Barcelona, where a team will be built around him, is the right place to go.

Rosell has made a name for himself as a talented negotiator and the former head of Nike in Spain and South America believes that if he is given the chance to talk to Beckham and his wife, Victoria, then he will be able to sell Barca to him.

“Absolutely I am confident of signing him otherwise I wouldn’t be doing this job, we will try talking to him and see what happens,” Rosell told the Press Association, following Sunday’s election results.

“I am absolutely delighted with the election outcome and we will now start the work of contacting the agents of players that we hope to bring in.”
