No regrets as May leaves Old Trafford

David May insists he has no regrets about joining Manchester United even though he leaves Old Trafford this summer having made just 32 appearances in the past six seasons.

The 32-year-old defender will end an association which began in 1994 when his contract expires next month, a period which has brought him five major winners’ medals – including the Champions League, even if he has rarely been a regular in Alex Ferguson’s side.

And though he admits it has been a “rollercoaster ride”, May would not have done anything differently even if he had known how it was going to turn out.

“I can’t thank the manager enough for the opportunity he gave me when I signed from Blackburn Rovers,” May told the Manchester Evening News.

“I have won things at United that 98% of players have never won and 98% of players never will. It has been an absolute joy.

“I would like to come back as a player and have one last go in front of the United fans but if not I still have some fantastic memories than no-one can take away from me.”
