Wenger to appeal Campbell red card

Arsene Wenger has decided to appeal against the red card issued to Sol Campbell against Manchester United on Wednesday night.

Arsene Wenger has decided to appeal against the red card issued to Sol Campbell against Manchester United on Wednesday night.

The Arsenal defender was sent off for alleged violent conduct seven minutes from the end of the 2-2 draw at Highbury when his arm made contact with United’s Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Wenger said after the game Campbell was harshly treated – and said the England international defender was “destroyed” by the decision of referee Mark Halsey to penalise him.

Wenger told Arsenal's official website, www.arsenal.com: ``We will appeal. I have seen it again on the video and it was obviously accidental.

“Sol didn’t mean to hurt Solskjaer and his reaction did not help. A four-game ban would be very unjust.”

Campbell faces a four-match ban which would include next month’s FA Cup final and vital Premiership games at home to Leeds and Southampton plus the last-day trip to Sunderland.
