Adams happy as Foxes draw with Pompey
Leicester boss Micky Adams would happily accept second place in Division One after watching his team draw 1-1 at home to league leaders Portsmouth.
A win for the Foxes would have pushed them ahead of Portsmouth but Trevor Benjamin’s early goal was cancelled out by a spectacular long-range strike from Matthew Taylor.
Adams said: “After this game, if people are going to say we’re going to finish second at the end of this season then I’ll take that, and that’s not Micky Adams showing a lack of ambition.
“I’ll take second place at the end of this season because we’ve had a traumatic year.
“You can’t please all the people all the time and in accepting second-best people will say we should be aiming for the title. We’ll still aim for the title but the Premiership is our great priority.”
Pompey boss Harry Redknapp, who saw his side maintain their two-point cushion at the top of the table, said: “We came here hoping to pick up three points but not to get beaten, that was the important thing.
“We did not get dominated in the first half, we had enough possession and if our front players had been at their best then we would have won the game.
“We needed to get it down and pass it and there was plenty of space on the right.
“Kevin Harper pressed them back and we created chances from that.
“But what can you say about Matt’s goal? He’s got everything, a right foot, a left foot and an unbelievable engine.
“Now it would be nice to win the championship for sure, if we get promotion the championship would be the icing on the cake.
“We’ll never get another chance like this, Leicester and ourselves would really have to stumble now if we’re not going to make it to the Premiership.”
