Replay takes on extra significance

Airdrie United and St Johnstone have been handed a massive financial incentive ahead of their Scottish Cup third round replay on February 4.

The two clubs will vie for the right to play Celtic in a money-spinning fourth round tie at Parkhead after being paired with the Premier League champions in the last 16.

Ayr, who defeated Peterhead, were the other big winners in the draw when they drew Rangers at Somerset Park.

The game will represent a repeat of last season’s CIS Insurance Cup final where the Light Blues ran out 4-0 winners at Hampden Park.

After their win at Kilmarnock, Motherwell have been handed a potentially awkward clash with First Division high-fliers Clyde, who defeated Gretna today, at Broadwood.

There is only one definite all-SPL tie with the winners of the replay between Livingston and Dunfermline playing host to Hibernian.

But Dundee must wait for the result of the Aberdeen-Queen of the South replay to see who they will be home to on the weekend of February 22 and 23.

Falkirk have been rewarded for their 4-0 demolition of top flight Hearts with a local derby at Alloa.

Morton, who beat First Division Ross County at Victoria Park, will have either Forfar or Stranraer as their next opponents at Cappielow.

In the other tie, Queen’s Park or Hamilton will take the long road north to Inverness for their last 16 clash.
