Celtic skipper Paul Lambert last night rounded on his critics and told them that his legs have not gone.

The 33-year-old midfielder has been dropped this season by manager Martin O’Neill even though he has become a major part in Scotland coach Berti Vogts’ plans.

Many have questioned whether the player is running out of steam, but the former European Cup winner is adamant that his loss of form has nothing to do with his ageing legs.

"Everyone has been making such a big thing about my fitness," snapped Lambert. "People are just jumping on the bandwagon and some of them don’t have a clue.

"My legs have gone? It is absolute and total rubbish. Truth is this game goes for you and sometimes it doesn’t."
