Football fan accused of racist chanting
A football fan was last night charged with indecent or racist chanting at a Premiership football match.
Barrie Edward Lawrence, a 30-year-old security consultant of south east London, was yesterday arrested at Charlton Athletic’s Valley football stadium shortly after the 3pm kick-off in their match against Manchester City.
The arrest for alleged abuse against black players followed an undercover operation by Metropolitan Police officers in the Athena Sport Unit.
Lawrence was also charged with using racially aggravated threatening words and behaviour and will appear before Woolwich magistrates on Thursday.
