Leeds: No Ridsdale-Venables rift
Leeds insist chairman Peter Ridsdale and manager Terry Venables “remain committed to get things right” for the Elland Road club.
The pair’s relationship was rumoured to be tense after yesterday’s annual general meeting, in which Ridsdale was comfortably re-elected to the United board.
But the club tonight issued a statement claiming the pair are working hand in hand to improve Leeds’ current slump in fortunes.
A statement to the Press Association said: “We are appalled at suggestion in this morning’s media coverage of our shareholders’ AGM of a division between chairman Peter Ridsdale and manager Terry Venables.
“We draw your attention to the wording of the chairman’s statement in which he said: ‘In the summer we took the difficult decision to change the football manager.
“‘We still believe this decision was the correct one and while the current performance of the team is clearly not acceptable given both our expectations and the investment we have made, everyone concerned is aware what we need to do and we will do everything we can to correct this position.’
“We all remain committed to get things right for the Leeds United cause.”
