Derry defeat Pat's in cup thriller

Derry City 3 St. Patrick's Athletic 1

Ciaran Martyn scored twice as Derry came from behind to book their place in the semi-finals of the FAI Cup.

Saints took the lead after just six minutes when Tony Bird shot home from 12 yards.

Derry, roared on by a big crowd, bombarded the Saints goal with David Kelly heading against the crossbar, Sean Hargan missing a sitter while Paul Osam, who was subsequently sent off, cleared off the line from Eamonn Doherty.

Derry finally got their reward with an equaliser two minutes after the break when Robbie Griffin put through his own goal.

Martyn then put Derry in front with a right-foot volley on 66 minutes before the former UCD midfielder added his second of the night in stoppage time.
