Bergkamp returns for Gunners

Dennis Bergkamp returned to the Arsenal attack after a calf injury as the Gunners attempted to rewrite the history books at West Ham today.

The Dutchman was passed fit to play alongside Thierry Henry as Arsene Wenger’s men attempted to stretch their 14-match Premiership winning streak to 15 games and establish a new all-time English football record in the process.

Sylvain Wiltord was also back after an ankle problem - but new midfielder Gilberto Silva was left out as he only returned from Brazil’s midweek international friendly yesterday morning.

For the Hammers, bidding to bounce back from Monday’s 4-0 thrashing at Newcastle, forward Frederic Kanoute started after a neck injury.

Nigel Winterburn lined up at left-back against his former club, but summer signing Gary Breen was left on the bench again.
