Okon looking forward to playing for Leeds
Paul Okon is looking forward to working with new boss Terry Venables once again following spells under the former England coach with both Australia and Middlesbrough.
Okon completed his move to Leeds United earlier today after passing a medical.
And with so many fellow Socceroos already at the club – such as Harry Kewell, Mark Viduka and Danny Milosevic – Okon believes he will settle into life at Elland Road very quickly.
“Joining a club of Leeds’ stature and having the chance to work under Terry Venables again made it an easy choice for me,” Okon told www.lufc.com, the club’s official website.
“I am very happy and very excited about the move.
“With the way the game is going it was possibly difficult for a lot of players who were at the end of their contracts.
“I had had few offers from other clubs, but I was delighted to have been given the opportunity to play for Leeds and work again with Terry.
“I was with Australia and Middlesbrough when Terry was there. I think a lot of players who had played under him would love to have the chance to do it again.
“It is a thrill also, for me to be linking up here with all the Australians Leeds have. That will make it a little easier for me to settle in.
“I am looking forward to playing a part in bringing success to Leeds United.”
The midfielder is also determined to force his way into Venables’ first-team plans.
Okon added: “I am a bit behind the other lads in terms of fitness because I have missed out on some pre-season training and I will be working hard to get to full fitness.
“Because of the number of matches to be played I think there is room for everyone. Most of the teams who are looking to win trophies have big squads and hopefully, when called upon, I can do my best and play my part.”
