Magpies stroll to victory

Newcastle strolled to an emphatic 9-0 win over Dutch outfit De Tubanters Enschede in the second game of their pre-season tour.

Alan Shearer grabbed a 10-minute first-half hat-trick after Lomana Lua Lua had given Bobby Robson’s men an early lead.

Steve Caldwell was the only player from a strong starting line-up not to be withdrawn at half-time, but that did not stop the goals with Laurent Robert adding a fifth three minutes after the break.

The Frenchman added a sixth from the spot before centre-back Marcelino grabbed a rare chance to get on the scoresheet.

An own-goal from the hosts made it eight for the Magpies before Christian Bassedas completed the rout late on.
