Leeds reject Rio transfer request

Leeds United have rejected Rio Ferdinand’s transfer request.

Leeds United have rejected Rio Ferdinand’s transfer request.

The England World Cup star defender handed in a transfer request to the Elland Road club earlier today.

The 23-year-old has been mulling over his future amid increased speculation that he could be set for a move to Leeds’ bitter rivals Manchester United.

New Leeds boss Terry Venables wants to keep Ferdinand, who was one of the star performers at this summer’s World Cup.

Leeds chairman Peter Ridsdale told the club's official website: "I can confirm that Rio Ferdinand has asked for a transfer and this request has been rejected."
