Ahern should not have interfered, says Irish physio

The Republic of Ireland’s physiotherapist has criticised the Taoiseach for interfering in the Roy Keane controversy that dogged the beginning of team’s World Cup. Mick Byrne says that Mr.Ahern shouldn’t become involved in "a football thing".

The Republic of Ireland’s physiotherapist has criticised the Taoiseach for interfering in the Roy Keane controversy that dogged the beginning of team’s World Cup. Mick Byrne says that Mr.Ahern shouldn’t become involved in "a football thing".

The squad veteran went on to say that the incident involving the Republic’s ex-skipper had not been a political thing. He argued that Mr’ Ahern’s offer to help was "wrong at the time".

Mr. Ahern had stepped in to try and resolve the conflict between Roy Keane and the Republic’s manager Mick McCarthy.
