Fergie ready for Nesta bid

Alex Ferguson has admitted he will move in for Italy defender Alessandro Nesta once the World Cup is over.

The Manchester United manager knows he will have to splash out between £25m (€40m) and £30m (€47m) for the Lazio star.

But that will not deter Ferguson, who knows he needs to strengthen his back line.

"It is difficult to sign players with the World Cup on, we knew that before we started. But we are interested in two or three players," he told the Manchester Evening News.

"Nesta's in the World Cup but hopefully we'll get something done before the start of the season.

"We are not over-confident but we are going to work hard at it."
