Singapore international airport officials have seized a submachine gun and ammunition from a bodyguard travelling with Colonel Gaddafi's son.

The seizure took place during routine security checks as Abousbeiha Hussein Azzaydi prepared to board a flight to Bangkok last Saturday.

A pistol, revolver and a knife were also taken from Azzaydi, a bodyguard for the Libyan leader's son, Saadi Gadhafi.

The 28-year-old and his bodyguards were among a party of at least 15 Libyans on their way to Seoul to watch the World Cup Finals.
