Gunners must wait for Premiership trophy

Arsenal will not get their hands on the Premiership trophy at Old Trafford even if they get the draw they need to secure the title next Wednesday.

Arsene Wenger’s side face closest rivals Manchester United in a potential title decider, but will not get the chance to parade the trophy on the ground of the current champions.

Instead, if they get a positive result in Manchester, Arsenal will receive the silverware before their last home game of the season against Everton on May 11.

Premier League spokesman Phillip French said: ‘‘That is how it has worked every year - we present the trophy before the champions’ last home game of the season.

‘‘There are no plans to make special arrangements this season because we always consult with the clubs and it is done with their blessing.’’

Wenger said: ‘‘We just want to win the trophy and then celebrate. It doesn’t matter where we do it.’’

United are the only side able to prevent Arsenal lifting the crown, and must win both their remaining matches and hope Arsenal fail to defeat Everton at Highbury.
