Premiership: Fergie still chasing Double dream
Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has set his sights on securing the Champions League crown after a superb run of form.
United take on Bayer Leverkusen in the semi-finals on Wednesday on the back of a 3-0 victory against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
Ferguson says his players are as focused as they were in 1999, when they won the Treble.
‘‘It’s a big challenge for us. Leverkusen are a very good team and showed that against Liverpool. But our players have shown their great maturity this season,’’ he said.
‘‘Our best performances this season have been in Europe and hopefully we will get another one on Wednesday night.’’
Ruud van Nistelrooy, who scored his 33rd goal of the season for his club, also sounded a warning to the German side, declaring that United were peaking at exactly the right time for their European campaign.
‘‘I think that was the best so far,’’ he said. ‘‘We played fantastically in defence, midfield and attack. It was an all-round good performance.’’
