Uefa Cup: Five Scottish fans arrested in Rotterdam
Five Scottish fans were arrested before Glasgow Rangers’ Uefa cup clash with Feyenoord in Rotterdam tonight, Dutch police said.
An hour after the game, police spokesman Hans Stoop said the five travelling fans were among 13 people arrested in isolated trouble around the ground.
One, a 27-year-old man from Glasgow, was fined for an assault, he said.
The others were arrested for drunken and disorderly behaviour and missed the game, which the home side won 3-2, sending Rangers out of the cup.
Mr Stoop said: ‘‘It has been a quiet night in the number of arrests, with very few problems.’’
Before the game, a crowd of around 20 travelling fans were involved in a fight with Dutch supporters at the city’s Central railway station.
Six people were arrested and later released.
The Dutch police had warned travelling Rangers fans they would hit with on-the-spot fines if they caused trouble during the match.
A district attorney was at the De Kuip stadium in Rotterdam with the power to fine and send home supporters who committed minor offences.
An extra 600 police officers were recruited in to patrol the streets and the stadium.
Following the first leg of the cup fixture in Glasgow last week, 26 fans - 10 of them from Holland - appeared before the city’s sheriff court in connection with crowd trouble.
