Premiership: Schmeichel praises Ferguson’s ‘fatherly’ qualities

Alex Ferguson’s “father figure” qualities are helping Manchester United to stabalise.

Alex Ferguson’s “father figure” qualities are helping Manchester United to stabalise.

That’s according to Aston Villa goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel.

The former Old Trafford great said his ex-boss is a “second dad” to every one of his players.

The retired Denmark international said: ‘‘Becks says Alex Ferguson is like a father figure to him.

“I think that goes for every player Ferguson has had in his time.

‘‘I had a very good relationship with Alex Ferguson and our personalities were very compatible.

“I think I gave him what he was looking for in that particular position.

‘‘We all have that feeling that he’s been a second dad to us.

‘‘No matter how I played, or if I made a mistake, he always respected me”.

Schmeichel is recovering from a thigh injury.

He expects to be back in the Villa line-up for Monday’s Premiership clash with Ipswich.
