Premiership: We had to hold on Matteo

Dominic Matteo admitted Leeds were disappointed to have been pegged back to a 1-1 draw - but claimed the experience of holding Manchester United at Old Trafford can only help the side.

Matteo said: ‘‘Being 1-0 up we were are a bit disappointed. It’s always tough coming here but we take some positives out of that.

‘‘We needed good team spirit and we had to hold on at the end Nigel had to make a few saves. We can only improve from this.’’

The former Liverpool defender said striker Ruud van Nistelrooy was always a danger.

‘‘He (van Nistelrooy) is a handful and we had to look after him all game,’’ Matteo added.

Leeds goalkeeper Nigel Martyn was delighted to have preserved his side’s unbeaten record after a late United onslaught.

Martyn said: ‘‘They just came at us and threw everything forward. We’ve done well against everybody and we are still unbeaten.’’
