SFA: Ferguson not offered Scotland job
Scottish Football Association president Jack McGinn and chief executive David Taylor have described a meeting with Alex Ferguson as "positive".
But they insisted they did not offer the job of Scotland manager to the Manchester United supremo.
Ferguson and fellow former Scotland manager Andy Roxburgh have been recruited to help find Craig Brown's successor.
Taylor said: "We discussed the situation about the manager's position, as well as a wide range of issues connected with the game in general.
"It is clear he has a continuing high interest in the game in Scotland. He restated his willingness to help, and we will remain in contact."
But no pleas to take the job on himself had been made, Taylor insisted.
He said: "He has already made it clear that he is not going to remain in football management after he leaves Manchester United."
