Premiership: McAteer to complete Sunderland move

Irish International Jason McAteer is to complete his £1m move to Sunderland today.

The midfielder has been the subject of much speculation since he scored the winning goal in Ireland’s crucial World Cup qualifier against Holland.

McAteer had been frozen out at Blackburn Rovers by manager Graeme Souness.

He is due to have a medical this morning followed by a press conference later today.
