Seria A: Ronaldo targets comeback

Ronaldo is hoping to make his return to competitive action when Inter Milan take on Parma next Sunday.

The Brazilian missed the whole of last season after suffering a serious knee injury in April 2000 - only seven minutes into a comeback from the same injury on the same knee.

The former two-time World Footballer of the Year scored twice for Inter in a 4-2 friendly win against French side Bastia on Friday.

Ronaldo, 25 later this month, has been blighted with injury since Brazil's 1998 World Cup final defeat at the hands of France.

But the former Barcelona and PSV Eindhoven striker believes the time has come for him to play in Serie A again.

Reports in the Italian press quote the player as saying: "I can not yet say I am back to my best.

"First I need to play some matches in the Championship. I am at the disposition of the coach (Hector Cuper) and I hope he will call me on Sunday."

Ronaldo also said he hopes to get an international recall for Brazil's World Cup qualifier with Chile on October 7.

He added: "The call-up has not yet come - but I want to play for Inter first."
