Premiership: Fulham to agree Marlet deal

Fulham have agreed a club record fee - believed to be £13m - for Lyon striker Steve Marlet.

The French international is currently in England but has yet to agree personal terms with Jean Tigana's Premiership side.

It is hoped that the London club will tie up the deal in the next 24 hours, subject to the player passing a medical.

The French giants rejected an offer last week from the Premiership side but have paved the way for the player's exit by saying Fulham were "expected" to meet their asking price.

A Lyon statement said: "Considering Steve Marlet's decision to give the priority to Fulham's offer rather than Lyon's sporting ambitions, we have decided to transfer the player as long as the English club accepts the price asked by Lyon.

"Fulham are expected to confirm their acceptance of the transfer fee by fax and Steve Marlet will travel to London today to sign."

Marlet, who moved to Lyon from Auxerre last summer for just £3.7m, scored 17 goals as Lyon finished second and qualified for the Champions League.

The club are believed to be demanding £15m.

It has been reported that the 27-year-old will earn £50,000 a week.
