Soccer: O'Neill slams Celtic-Porto farce

Celtic manager Martin O'Neill has explained why he chased a linesman down the touchline during last night's friendly defeat against FC Porto.

The match in Paris had already descended into a farce after none of the match officials arrived in time for kick-off.

The stadium director stood in as referee, while two linesmen were selected from the ranks of the Porto coaching staff.

The replacement referee had no yellow or red cards and appeared to lose control of the game.

O'Neill said today that he was concerned about a number of challenges and one linesman's "apparent bias".

"There were a few tackles on both sides and I advised the players to stay out of trouble as we have a lot of impending games coming up," O'Neill said.

"It started to get a little bit heated with the linesman on this side and I ran up the line because I think he was desperately trying to get the referee to give a penalty."

Porto eventually won the game thanks to an 85th minute Nuno Capucho goal.
