Premiership: Foxes chief denies Taylor role change
Leicester chairman John Elsom today insisted that there were no plans to alter manager Peter Taylor’s role at Filbert Street.
A morning report indicated that the Foxes were on the verge of bringing in a general manager type figure to work alongside Taylor.
It was claimed that there were concerns that Taylor’s duties as a member of England coach Sven Goran Eriksson’s backroom staff were affecting his position with City.
Leicester ended the season with a disastrous run of nine defeats in 10 games which saw them finish 13th in the Premiership.
But Elsom is adamant that Taylor, currently helping Eriksson prepare for the games with Mexico and Greece, will remain in full control of the playing side.
He said: "Much of the wording in this article is journalistic conjecture. There has been no discussion whatsoever about the possibility of bringing in a general manager".
Elsom has yet to receive contact from the Football Association over extending Taylor’s England role after the game in Greece on June 6 when the current agreement runs out.
But the City chief has made it clear that he would not release Taylor for the friendly with Holland on August 15 - just three days before the Premiership season gets underway.
Taylor has already indicated he would not be available for that game but does want to continue on with England and believes such a role will help him to become a better manager.
Elsom said: "The Football Association have not, as yet, approached me regarding the services of Peter Taylor for their training sessions next season.
"However, in discussions with Peter, I have made it clear that we would not be able to countenance releasing him for the Holland game in the week prior to the start of the Premiership season.
"If the FA do approach me, with regard to subsequent matches next season, I will consider the matter in the light of the discussions I would have with them at that time."
