Scottish Cup Final: Moravcik fights to make final
Celtic star Lubo Moravcik faces a race against time to be fit for the Scottish Cup final after having stitches inserted in a gashed knee.
The Slovakian playmaker sustained the injury in training and was forced to miss yesterday’s match at Kilmarnock.
But it appears the problem is worse than first feared and he could be set to miss out on a dream day out at Hampden Park on Saturday.
Celtic manager Martin O’Neill will give him as much time as possible to prove his fitness and the club are hopeful he will line up on against Hibernian to help his team-mates attempt to complete the treble.
A spokesperson for the club confirmed: ‘‘He has taken a knock and we’ll have a look at it nearer the end of the week.
‘‘But he still has hopes of playing in the cup final and I would not rule him out completely at this stage. There’s still a chance for him.
‘‘He took a cut on his knee. I couldn’t confirm the number of stitches, but I’d say it was about 11, 12 or 13 which is a bit nasty.’’
