Soccer: Redknapp leaves Hammers
Harry Redknapp has parted company with West Ham after almost seven years in the job, according to reports.
Redknapp led the Hammers to FA Cup victories at Manchester United and Sunderland this year but the team are currently 14th in the Premiership.
The 54-year-old was involved in a British record transfer deal earlier this season when Rio Ferdinand left Upton Park for Leeds for £18million.
Redknapp told the club’s official website: "I’ve had a chat with the chairman and just feel it’s been a tough season.
"The last eight weeks or so of the season haven’t been particularly enjoyable and I feel that, maybe, it’s time for a change.
"I would like to thank the chairman and the board for all the support they’ve given me since I’ve been at the club."
The Hammers looked set to improve on last season’s ninth placing earlier in the year, and the FA Cup win at Old Trafford, followed by another 1-0 success at Sunderland, raised hopes of cup success.
But their season nosedived following the quarter-final exit at the hands of Tottenham.
They have slipped to 14th in the table - and needed three points against Southampton on Saturday to end fears of relegation from the Premiership.
