Soccer: Mols suffers another injury blow

Rangers striker Michael Mols is to undergo yet another knee operation.

He has been booked in for the operation on his right knee in Amsterdam on Tuesday.

Mols has been searching for full fitness for 15 months after he suffered crucial ligament damage in a Champions League game.

That was in October 1999 against Bayern Munich when he fell heavily following a challenge by goalkeeper Oliver Khan.

He underwent full reconstruction surgery soon after but, after a number of comebacks from the start of the current season, is still having problems.

Mols is troubled by fluid on his rebuilt knee and has been intermittently available for selection during a hectic schedule after the restart.

The club's official website, rangers.co.uk, revealed: "Mols flew to Amsterdam on Thursday for a consultation with medical staff who were involved with the initial injury and it has been decided that a small operation should take place on Tuesday.

"The player is insistent he will be back as strong and sharp as he ever was and the Ibrox medical team are confident that this will be the case, once he has this new surgery."

The £4m signing from Utrecht has been in and out of the team since his comeback in late August.

He netted a memorable goal in the 5-1 thrashing of Celtic after coming on as a substitute, but was sent off against the same opposition in the CIS Insurance Cup semi-final.
