Seamus Coleman, ruled out for three to four weeks with a calf injury he picked up against Manchester City this week, is a topical case in point.

“I’m watching the game thinking I shouldn’t be worried about Everton players,” says the Sunderland defender, “but I see Seamus go down with a few minutes left and you’re thinking ‘I hope it’s not too bad, a bit of cramp’, but they’re saying now he could be (out) for a few weeks.
