With their closest rivals Cork City not playing Sligo Rovers until tomorrow, Dundalk will be looking to strike the psychological blow of extending their lead at the top of the SSE Airtricity League to nine points – at least for 24 hours – when they host Longford Town at Oriel Park this evening.

While Cork were impressive in beating Bohemians 4-0 last time out, Dundalk were doing what champions tend to do – eking out a narrow win to maintain their current six-point advantage.

“We had a very good win away to Bray last week,” says manager Stephen Kenny. “It was an important three points for us and I was happy with the level of performance. We played some good football and we are hoping to take that into the game against Longford Town.
