Weekend of Horrors Down Under: Keogh arrested, Duffer crocked

Speculation mounts in Melbourne that Damien Duff’s Australian adventure is over after an unusual double injury in Melbourne City’s draw with Wellington on Saturday.

Weekend of Horrors Down Under: Keogh arrested, Duffer crocked

Duff, 35 next month, limped off just eight minutes into the game after a tackle from Phoenix striker Roy Krishna.

Initially an ankle ligament injury was diagnosed. But further scans showed Duff also ruptured a tendon in his calf.

Duff has missed just one match for Melbourne this season and coach John van’t Schip was downbeat at the prospect of losing his star man.

“Hopefully the injury won’t be too bad — we have to wait and see — but it doesn’t look good,’’ the coach said after the match.

The club hasn’t commented since, but with just 10 rounds of regular season action left - and Duff on a one-year deal - Australian media are writing off chances of seeing the Dubliner in action again.

Fox Sports wrote that Duff’s “A-League career looks over” while the Herald Sun suggested he’d “almost certainly played his last A-League game”.

“City are awaiting results from a secondary set of scans for Duff, but are understood to be resigned to losing him for the rest of the season,” said Fox Sport’s David Davutovic.

Meanwhile, Ireland and Perth Glory striker Andy Keogh has indicated his embarrassment after his arrest in Adelaide on Sunday night following a 1-1 draw with Adelaide United.

Team-mate Josh Risdon was also arrested.

“The two players were fined and released by police for an incident understood to be relating to their conduct in public,” reported WA Today.

“The two players are not alleged to have been involved in any violent conduct but sources suggest they were likely intoxicated at the time of their arrest.”

Perth Glory chief executive Jason Brewer says the players have shown regret but remain under investigation.

"The players admit the situation has embarrassed them, their teammates and our fans and they are accepting full responsibility for their poor behaviour," Brewer said.

“We do not condone any kind of behaviour which breaches the club’s protocol and the National Code of Conduct.

"We will continue to educate and support our players to ensure their judgments reflect the ethos and values of Perth Glory FC."
