Lamela lights up Lane while hat-trick hero Kane ends in goal
Kane not only scored his first hat-trick for Spurs but ended the Group C clash in goal after Hugo Lloris’ late sending off, although Lamela will take the headlines for his wonderful brace in the 5-1 win.
Showing incredible skill and creativity, Lamela wrapped his left foot around his right leg to score with a rabona strike from the edge of the box.
Spurs were already a goal ahead at that point thanks to Kane’s long-distance strike and their first Group C win was to get better still, with Lamela volleying home from an acute angle before Kane turned home his second from close range. The 21-year-old wrapped up a hat-trick soon after and then donned the goalkeeper’s gloves after Lloris was shown a straight red card for bundling over Tasos Tsokanis.
The resulting free-kick from Jeronimo Barrales squirmed through Kane’s grasp.
Elsewhere, Stefan Scepovic scored his first goal for Celtic as the Hoops made hard work of beating Astra Giurgiu 2-1 in their Europa League clash at Parkhead.
Scepovic headed in an Anthony Stokes free-kick in the 73rd minute before midfielder Stefan Johansen made it 2-0, only for Gabriel Enache to pull a goal back to ensure a nervy ending. “We have got seven points from nine and that’s the most important thing,” said Scepovic afterwards.
Maenwhile, Everton boss Roberto Martinez expressed “immense pride” to the club’s “incredible” fans after last night’s 0-0 draw at Lille. The contest had been preceded by trouble in the French city involving Toffees fans, including an attack on some of them at a bar by a group of at least 50 men on Wednesday and a subsequent flare-up in a town square yesterday lunchtime.
Martinez did not comment on specific incidents of trouble but he said with regard to the fans: “I can only speak from my point of view and the first thing I feel is immense pride and an incredible feeling of seeing what we are as a club. The support doesn’t stop amazing me day to day. I’s incredible.”
