Keane to start new job today
It has been three years since Republic of Ireland number two Keane was involved in day to day management when he was in charge at Ipswich Town.
He is relishing the chance to work at Villa as Paul Lambert’s number two and can’t wait to meet the players.
“As much as I have seen the players sitting up in the stands, it’s different working with them on the training pitch, looking at the tactical stuff or the physical side,” he said.
“Obviously I want to get out on the grass with the players working with them, getting close to them, trying to help them, whether that’s the senior players or the younger players where I can pass on my experiences.
“I will obviously help out in any way and be one of the trusted staff that the manager can speak to. I am here to help out anyone at any level.”
Villa are heading to America to face FC Dallas and Houston Dynamo this month and Keane added: “I am looking forward to it. It will be important for me to get to know the players and staff.
“Sometimes you get to know people better when you travel with them. Pre-season will be very important.
“Going to the States will be good. I have only just back from there with Ireland. I will be back over there with Villa and I am looking forward to it.
“America is always a good place to have pre-season, with the facilities over there, which are always excellent. I am really looking forward to that trip.”
