Tevez to leave City for Juventus

Carlos Tevez is expected to complete a £13.5 million move to Juventus later this week.

Tevez to leave City for Juventus

Manchester City director of football Txiki Begiristain met with his Juventus counterparts yesterday and after an agreement from new boss Manuel Pellegrini, it was decided Tevez should be allowed to end his controversial four-year stay at the Etihad Stadium.

The player will undergo a medical today, with personal terms also still to be agreed.

Although Juventus will only be paying an initial €9m, a further €6m could be payable if various clauses are met over the course of what it is understood will be a three-year contract.

Indeed, Tevez’s status as one of City’s highest earners means that the deal in total is worth £27m, even though the South American only had a year remaining on his contract.

Tevez’s exit could pave the way for Edinson Cavani to arrive at the Etihad Stadium.

In a bizarre turn, Cavani himself has asked his parents “a thousand times” to stop discussing his future in public as the transfer battle for his services goes on.

The 26-year-old Uruguay international had already been linked with a move to City before his mother claimed he had held productive talks with both City and Spanish giants Real Madrid.

His father suggested Cavani had agreed to join Real, with the capital club apparently haggling over the striker’s €63m release clause. But Cavani, who scored 29 league goals for Napoli last season, yesterday called time on what he considers harmful interfering from his parents.

Quoted in La Repubblica, he said: I want to point out that these words are not coming from me.

“I’ve asked my parents a thousand times not to say any more. They can only hurt me.”

In other transfer news, Simon Mignolet’s move to Liverpool looks to have opened the door for Keiren Westwood at Sunderland again.

The Belgium international last night passed his medical and agreed personal terms on a move which will cost the Reds £9m but which could rise to £11m.

“I am delighted that we have been able to sign one of the top goalkeepers in the Premier League,” said Rodgers.

“Simon will join a club that will give him an opportunity to demonstrate and improve his huge talent.”

Ireland international Westwood is now determined to reestablish himself as number one for Sunderland — or he will leave the Black Cats.

The 28-year-old keeper endured a miserable 2012-13 campaign as his lack of club action — he made just three appearances for the Black Cats, all of them in the Capital One Cup — cost him his place in Giovanni Trapattoni’s starting XI.

Westwood said: “I love it at Sunderland, but if I’m not going to play... it’s a tough decision, but I need to play football. A lot of stuff can happen over the off-season. Basically, I just want to play football. It’s been a frustrating 12 months or so, so I’m looking to come out of the dark times and into some good ones.”

Elsewhere, Premier League new boys Hull have completed the signing of Curtis Davies from Birmingham for an undisclosed fee believed to be between £2m and £3m.

In Spain, former Barcelona manager Johan Cruyff believes the Catalan club should plan for the possibility of selling Lionel Messi now that they have signed Neymar.

Neymar arrived at the Nou Camp on June 3, signing a five-year contract for €57m from Santos, but Cruyff believes the 21-year-old Brazilian forward will struggle to work alongside Argentinian Messi in Tito Vilanova’s frontline.

Cruyff told Marca: “With Neymar signed, I would have planned for the possibility of selling Messi. Some would agree with that, others not.”
