Cork badly need morale boosting win at Bohs
Cork City are one side badly in need of a morale boost after losing back to back games at home to St Patrick’s Athletic and Limerick and, tonight, Tommy Dunne’s side will be seeking a change in fortune away to Bohemians, themselves looking to bounce back from defeat by UCD.
“Dalymount is always a tough place to go,” says Dunne. “I’m told the pitch is starting to improve which should help us, but it will be a tough game. Bohs have some good young players, but it is a game we must win.”
Daryl Kavanagh and John Dunleavy return to the Cork squad, having missed the Limerick game through illness, but Dan Murray misses out again as does Darren Dennehy who is suspended following his sending off against Limerick on Monday.
Bohs will also be without a red-carded player following Keith Buckley’s late sending off against the Students. City are one point above Bohs in eighth place and Gypsies manager Aaron O’ Callaghan is hoping to leapfrog the Rebels tonight.
“Cork have assembled quite a decent squad but a couple of results have gone against them and they’ve conceded late goals here and there,” he says.
“We know if we win the game we go above them, which is a great incentive. It was disappointing that our run came to an end, but we’ve got to get back on the bike and kick on.”
Elsewhere in the Premier Division, Sligo Rovers should be on a high travelling to Bray, having regained top spot with a comprehensive victory over second-placed Derry City. The Candystripes, in turn, are at home to UCD this evening while Dundalk will be hoping to bounce back from their 1-0 defeat by Shamrock Rovers when they host bottom side Shelbourne at Oriel Park.
All the Premier Division fixtures have a 7.45pm kick off while, in the First Division, Mervue United welcome Waterford United (7.45) and Wexford Youths are at home to Salthill Devon (8pm).
