Terry awaiting scan on injury

Chelsea captain John Terry will have a scan in hospital today to determine the extent of a knee injury that saw him stretchered off in agony during yesterday’s draw against Liverpool.

Terry awaiting scan on injury

Terry had already opened the scoring at Stamford Bridge with a 20th minute header when he tangled with Luis Suarez and collapsed awkwardly to the floor, twisting his right knee.

Suarez later Tweeted his best wishes to the Chelsea defender. Terry left the ground on crutches wearing a knee brace.

“He picked up an injury and we have to wait until tomorrow for his MRI scan to understand the full extent,” said Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo.

“There’s concern. We just got him back into the team after the ban. It was great seeing him out there. We hope it’s not a serious injury. When a player reacts like that, it’s a concern. He’s in pain. He didn’t go straight to hospital but he will go for a scan.”

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard also picked up a knee injury and needed treatment after the final whistle. But Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers revealed it is not serious and he may still link up with England for a friendly match in Sweden, where he is expected to win his 100th cap. “I think Steven will be alright. He’s opened up his medial ligament a bit and has some ice on his knee,” Rodgers said.
