Cork to visit Limerick in EA Sports Cup

Cork City have been drawn away to Limerick in the second round of this year’s EA Sports Cup.

City are second from bottom in the Airtricity League Premier Division and Limerick second from top in the First, but the Leesiders put their early season struggles behind them this week with a thumping 5-1 win over Wexford Youths in the first round of the EA Sports Cup.

City lost out in the final last season to Derry City, and the holders have been handed home advantage against Finn Harps in the second round of the competition.

Meanwhile, Ireland’s U17s ended their UEFA elite stage qualification campaign with a disappointing 2-1 defeat to Albania.

Ireland’s qualification hopes were already over before last night’s defeat in Holland. Jack Grealish equalised Kristi Marku’s opener but Franc Ymeralilaj scored Albania’s winner.

EA Sports Cup second round draw — Pool 1: Limerick v Cork City; St Patrick’s Athletic v UCD.

Pool 2: Derry City v Finn Harps; Sligo Rovers v Monaghan United.

Pool 3: SD Galway v Shamrock Rovers; Shelbourne v Bray Wanderers.

Pool 4: Drogheda United v Bohemians; Longford Town v Dundalk

Ties to be played on Monday/Tuesday, April 9/10.
