Hughes was officially unveiled as Rangers manager at a packed press conference at Loftus Road yesterday and insisted he had no intention of using his new side as a stepping stone.

The former Manchester United striker has been accused of doing just that in the past, quitting Blackburn to take charge of Manchester City and then walking away from Fulham last summer claiming the club lacked his ambition.
