Evra insists video evidence will prove racial abuse by Suarez

PATRICE EVRA is prepared to use video evidence to back up his claims that Luis Suarez racially abused him during Liverpool’s 1-1 draw with Manchester United on Saturday.

Evra and Suarez clashed during the Anfield encounter and Evra told French TV station Canal Plus after the game that Suarez had racially abused him “more than 10 times”. While Suarez has since categorically denied the claim, Evra is confident his allegations can be proved.

“There will be an enquiry, we have video, and there are cameras everywhere,” Evra added in the interview broadcast in France. “You can very well see on his lips the word he says to me more than ten times. I have no worries on that front.”

The French defender said after the game: “I’m very upset and angry. I think that in 2011 there are certain things which should no longer be said. He knows full well what he said to me. The referee is aware, he knows what happened, that will have to be looked into after the game.

“It’s very disappointing from him — I won’t repeat what he said but yes they were racist comments. He tried to get me to crack, we will see what happens now.”

This is not the first time Evra has been involved in a row of this nature.

In April 2008, he accused Chelsea groundsman Sam Bethell of racist abuse after a clash following United’s league game at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea. The FA rejected the claim.

In February 2006, police investigated claims that Liverpool’s Steve Finnan had abused Evra, although on that occasion the player had not heard anything and had made no complaint.

Suarez is also no stranger to controversy. The Uruguay striker earned notoriety at last year’s World Cup by handling a goalbound effort by Ghana in the final moments of the quarter-final, then celebrating when the resulting penalty was missed and Uruguay went through on a penalty shoot-out. In November, he was suspended for seven games by the Dutch FA for biting PSV Eindhoven midfielder Otman Bakkal on the shoulder while playing for Ajax.
