Keane weighing up his options
That’s according to Giovanni Trapattoni who has been in contact with the Irish captain as he looks to resolve his future away from Spurs ahead of the new season in England.
Trapattoni said that he hopes that both Keane and Shay Given will get the moves which will bring them regular football. He also backed John O’Shea and Keiren Westwood to be successes at their new club, Sunderland. And he responded enthusiastically to reports that O’Shea is in line to be appointed captain of the Black Cats.
“John is no kid, he is responsible,” he said. “He is a man and a player and he has a good personality. Now we wait to see which position he will play in, right back or defender. And Keiren was always a good goalkeeper. He was injured but now he is fit and Sunderland have struck a good deal.”
The manager also revealed Sven Goran Eriksson had contacted him about Sean St Ledger before the defender sealed his move to Leicester City. “For me, he is a good player and a good man. And now I say to him: you must show that what I said about you is true (smiles).”
Trapattoni is not certain he will attend this month’s 2014 World Cup qualifying draw but admitted, with a grin, he wouldn’t mind if Ireland draw Italy, France or England on the road to Rio.
